The Department of Physics started functioning with its pre-degree course and expanded its new horizon by starting UG & PG courses in the years 1957 & 1982 respectively. Soon the department got elevated to be recognized as a Research Center in 1988 by MG University, Kottayam. The Major Programmes offered are
 B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics with specialization in Photonics
 B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics with specialization in Space Physics
 M.Sc. Physics – Specialization Electronics
 Ph.D Physics (Nanophotonics, Atmospheric Physics)
 Certificate Course in Nanoscience
 Certificate Course in Disaster Management

This year onwards the UG courses are running in an innovative mode with many flexible options with wide range of Minor subjects & Multidisciplinary courses providing opportunities for Students to select courses of their choice. Besides the advanced features include Compulsory Internship programs with a good number of skill based courses too. The Department of Physics offers two specializations with UG Physics 1) Photonics 2) Space Physics

Studying Space Physics will inculcate a new perspective to study Earth and the solar system thereby contributing to the technologies that will improve our ongoing research activities by providing critical information on diverse space terrains for improving the conditions of humans.
