The PG & Research Department of Physics, St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry, celebrated International Moon Day on 21 July 2026 with the theme "One Moon, One Vision, One Future." The programme was organized to commemorate humanity's remarkable achievements in lunar exploration and to inspire students to pursue careers in space science and technology. The celebration commenced with an invited talk by Dr. Poornima N., Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, St. Paul's College, Kalamassery, on the topic "The Ultimate Upgrade: Innovations That Earned Cosmic Wings." The speaker highlighted the technological advancements that have revolutionized space exploration, the significance of lunar missions, and India's growing contribution through ISRO's Chandrayaan missions. Students actively participated in the interactive session and gained valuable insights into emerging opportunities in space science. As part of the celebrations, the department also organized a Digital Poster Making Competition, encouraging students to creatively express their understanding of lunar exploration and space technology. In the afternoon, a special screening of the acclaimed science-fiction movie "The Martian" was conducted to stimulate scientific curiosity and discussions on space survival and future human missions to Mars. The programme successfully promoted scientific awareness, innovation, and enthusiasm for astronomy and space research among the students.
